Nickel-Based Alloy: Highly Corrosion-Resistant Hastelloy C-276 Plate

Nickel-Based Alloy: Highly Corrosion-Resistant Hastelloy C-276 Plate

TIPTOP Hastelloy C-276: The Ultimate Safeguard for High-Stakes Environments

In the realm of advanced chemical processing and high-end manufacturing, Hastelloy C-276 stands as an irreplaceable pillar. Beyond being a standard nickel-based alloy, it serves as the definitive “last line of defense” against extreme thermal stress and aggressive chemical degradation. When conventional materials succumb to harsh operational demands, C-276 remains the industry’s gold standard for maintaining system integrity.

Our TIPTOP Hastelloy C-276 plates are specifically utilized to neutralize the most persistent corrosive threats. Whether your equipment is exposed to fluctuating oxidative or reductive environments, our alloy provides a robust shield across various media:

  • Chloride-Heavy Conditions: Delivers exceptional stability in seawater and high-concentration saline solutions.
  • Aggressive Gas Exposure: Remains inert when handling wet chlorine gas, hypochlorites, and chlorine dioxide.
  • Sulfur-Rich Systems: The preferred solution for flue gas desulfurization (FGD) components.
  • Severe Salt Solutions: Effectively resists strong oxidizing salts such as FeCl₃ and CuCl₂.
  • Acidic Mixtures: Provides long-term durability against low-to-moderate temperaturehydrochloric and sulfuric acids, even in the presence of halide ions.

TIPTOP’s C-276 plates drive reliability across a broad spectrum of high-demand sectors:

  • Petrochemical & Chemical Processing: Essential for reactors, heat exchangers, and storage units managing chlorinated organic compounds.
  • Environmental Utility: A core material for scrubbers, reheaters, and fans in coal-firedpower plant FGD systems.
  • Pulp & Paper Production: Engineered to withstand the high-temperature corrosive fluidsused in cooking and bleaching vessels.
  • Marine & Offshore Engineering: Widely deployed in desalination plants and offshoreoil/gas platforms due to its inherent resistance to salt-water erosion.
  • Advanced Water Treatment: Integrated into systems handling chlorinated wastewaterand hypochlorite processing.

Performance Characteristics and Material Advantages of Hastelloy C-276 Nickel-Based Alloy Plate

With a dense mass of 8.90 g/cm³ and a melting range of 1325°C -1370°C,C-276 features a refined Face-Centered Cubic (FCC) austenitic matrix. This non-magnetic structure, refined through precision heat treatment, suppresses carbide precipitation in the heat- affected zone during welding, ensuring weld-joint reliability.

How C-276 Outperforms the Competition:

  1. Superior to 304/316 Stainless Steel: Standard grades are prone to Stress Corrosion Cracking(scc) in chloride-rich media, often failing within months. In contrast, C-276 maintains anegligible corrosion rate (typically < 0.025 mm/year), extending equipment lifespan by several orders of magnitude.
  2. The Tungsten Advantage: As a premier tungsten-bearing Ni-Cr-Mo alloy, C-276 offers adistinct edge over tungsten-free alternatives. The inclusion of tungsten significantlybolsters the material’s resistance to localized crevice corrosion and overall structural degradation.

Manufacturing Process and Quality Assurance of Hastelloy C-276 Plate

Manufacturing Process:

  1. Melting and Alloying: The vacuum induction melting (VIM) process is adopted to effectively remove impurities and gases, thereby improving the purity and uniformity of the alloy.
  2. Casting: The main method involves the combination of continuous casting and forging. The cooling of the mold uses an efficient water-cooled mold to ensure rapid solidification of the steel ingot and prevent macroscopic segregation. The final forging temperature is maintained at 900-1000°C to avoid grain coarsening.
  3. Hot Rolling and Cold Rolling: The plates are processed through precise rolling technology to achieve the required thickness and mechanical properties.
  4. Solution Heat Treatment: The plates undergo solution heat treatment at 1100-1150°C to optimize corrosion resistance and mechanical strength.
  5. Surface Treatment and Quality Inspection: The plates are treated with acid washing, polishing or protective coating, and undergo strict quality tests.

Our TIPTOP has obtained the ISO 9001 quality management system certification and possesses complete quality testing equipment. We have our own VIM smelting capability and a well-structured production line (which can ensure the purity and uniformity of the alloy). The nickel-based alloy Hastelloy C-276 sheet products we produce comply with the ASTM B575/ASME SB575, ASTM B906, DIN 17750, ISO 6208, GB/T 15007, and EN 10204-3.1/3.2 sheet execution standards. We can also conduct third-party testing according to customer requirements, including chemical composition, mechanical properties, intergranular corrosion, and other test data.

Before each product leaves the factory, we will conduct strict quality control based on customer requirements, covering multiple aspects such as chemical composition analysis (spectroscopy analysis, ICP detection), mechanical property tests (room temperature and high-temperature tensile, hardness tests, impact tests), corrosion performance tests, non-destructive testing (ultrasonic testing), size and appearance inspection, etc., to ensure that each product meets the requirements.
